Success Stories

Real stories from students, graduates, and community members whose lives have been changed through The Volcanes Community School.

"Every story is different, but they all share one thing: access to education changed what was possible."

Yaneli Luna

“The Volcanes Community School is one of those places where you feel like home, you feel loved, welcomed, appreciated, included, and many more wonderful things.
This place is not like any other place I have been, it’s where I spent most of my childhood and teenage years. I took computer classes, math classes, English classes with not only Ms. Megan but with many other teachers who I remember with so much love and appreciation for everything they taught me.
I always loved being included in every club, every activity for and to the community.
This place taught me to be involved more in my community, to give back a little part of what I received. I used to love going on field trips to clean the rivers, streets, help the seniors and more.
I’m so grateful for this program because I can say I was the first student to ever go on a school exchange to the United States in 2018 and come back like a different person, with new knowledge, new perspectives, new friendships, new experiences and new ideas.
I also had the opportunity to teach in The Volcanes Community School for 2 years teaching English to kids from third grade through high school. It wasn’t easy but I did it with the purpose of teaching my students the language and also love for their community and school.
Thank you so much to The Volcanes Community School for shaping me into the person I am today! I wish I could do just a little bit of what you guys did for me.”

Education in Action

Seaver Foundation evaluation summary

In 2018, Eleanor Seaver, on behalf of the Seaver Foundation, conducted a child-centered evaluation of The Volcanes Community School (formerly VKEP). The results were overwhelmingly positive, and her recommendations have since been implemented—bringing school counseling services, clean drinking water, and daily free meals to our students.

Community-wide improvements

Our programs at The Volcanes Community School benefit children, their families, and the entire community. Students gain education, nutrition, mentorship, and creative opportunities, while adults build literacy and life skills. Together, these programs strengthen the community, foster self-worth, and empower individuals to contribute meaningfully to society.

Outcomes Across Generations

Children

Every school day, more than 300 students receive a nourishing breakfast or lunch so hunger never stands in the way of learning. From there, dedicated teachers guide students through English instruction, computer literacy, music education, and service-learning experiences that build leadership and community pride.

Teens

Teenagers, young adults, mothers, and fathers participate in adult education programs that help them complete their high school studies and build stronger futures for their families.

Adults

We offer INEA’s GED program which allows adults to complete their high school diploma as we strive to meet the diverse needs of our community.

Families

Our school not only serves the children in Volcanes, but also the teenagers, young adults, mothers and fathers.

Your support changes a child’s future.
